Shannon, the Artist Behind Colours by Shannon
ARTIST'S TRIVIA
Who I Am
I'm an acrylic painter and aspiring writer living in Tramore, Waterford, with my fiancé Brian and our two cats.
My small, bright home studio by the coast is where all my creations come to life. After a two-year stint in Malta, we moved back to Ireland in 2024. We love a sea swim and a walk on the beach.
I describe my painting style as whimsical realism. If it wasn't for Brian's fearless nature and endless encouragement, my art wouldn't be here for you all to see—so thank you to him.
What I Create
My passion lies in creating bright, timeless art pieces that will be cherished for years to come. My work is specifically designed for nursery spaces, offering both colour and sentimentality.
I aim to create keepsakes for parents and their children that serve as core memories. My art is there to remind them of the special moments in life, like the newborn bubble or a family milestone.
Each piece is a small reflection of those early days with baby, hoping to comfort and lift them up during long nights or tough days of parenthood.
Why I Paint
Art has always been a release for me—a way to express what I can't put into words. It's something I could control, especially when life felt a bit uncertain.
Though I didn't fully commit to growing as an artist until my late 20s, the passion was always there, simmering.
I missed art deeply in the years I didn't create, but I continued to take endless photographs, always with the intent to paint them someday.
Creating paintings for other people's children started as a small habit—something personal for a milestone like a birth or a 1st birthday.
This habit turned into a business idea when my niece was born in 2023, the Year of the Rabbit. I painted her a vibrant, pink rabbit for her nursery, and that was the beginning of Colours by Shannon.
Now, this rabbit has evolved into my first collection, and I hope you love it as much as I do.
Where My Work Makes an Impact
Hang my artwork in the most loving, precious space in your home: the nursery. Little ones get their daily sensory boost by looking at their very own piece of vibrant art.
My art is crafted for mothers and parents too, both in Ireland and away, offering a beautiful way to celebrate and remind you of the early days of parenthood.
Why My Work Matters
My wish for my art is simple: to give you the opportunity to pause, reflect, and remember a certain point in time.
My goal is to lift you up a bit when you're tired and remind you of those early, precious moments you might forget.
Babies who have my art hanging nearby can watch it change as their eyes grow and their vision get sharper over time.
When I Realised This is What I Wanted
I don't remember exactly when I started, but drawing has always come naturally to me. I taught myself to paint with oils at a young age, using my adjustable desk as an easel.
Art was not just a hobby—it was an escape. During a tough time in my childhood, painting brought me peace. As I grew older, life got busier, and I stopped making time for art. But at 30, I realised I needed it again.
Now, I fall back in love with painting every day 🤍
